The Church is not yet Separated from the State
This is an expression used to describe the situation between THC and CBD drug classifications in Canada. In many of the U.S states they are considered 2 completely different substances, and therefore the laws are being made to vary, but in Canada, they are still considered one and the same. Many argue that since CBD has no psychoactive effects and would be considered more of a vitamin in nature, it’s only right we see the two reclassified in the future. For example, someone taking CBD would more likely to be able to operate a vehicle or machinery, than someone high on THC and impaired. But for now, the church and state remain one, meaning all rules that apply for THC apply for CBD.
All Manufacturers of CBD Products Must Open Entirely New Factories
This is a big shocker. In Canada, you have to open an entirely new factory so there is absolutely no risk of contamination. Many are outraged because as manufacturers this involves an entirely new cost for an entirely new product line that they haven’t sold a single product for yet. For example, this means if you currently manufacture chocolate, and now want to move into THC or CBD chocolate you need completely new facilities to process the food, even if your current facilities are risk-free and has a pristine track record of never contaminating food in your multiple years of business.
Industrial Hemp is not Marijuana and Therefore is Not Illegal
Many people (including government, banks and officials whom you’d think would know the laws themselves) get these two confused. Any oils made from the stalk or seeds of the hemp plant, and any hemp seeds, are completely legal in Canada. Industrial hemp extracts made from the stalk or seeds contain CBD and THC with levels under < 0.03% – This is a rare opportunity for Canadians, as we are the first to allow other uses of the Hemp plant and its other ranges of health benefits, such as omegas and amino acids found in these oils. The passing of the Farm Bill may also begin to open up similar markets in the U.S in the very near future.
CBD Actually Helps Counteract THC’s Psychoactive Effects
CBD is well known as the non-psychoactive substance derived from Cannabis, that can help with mood, anxiety, stress, hormonal balances and much more. Although these are all claims, the substance is being heavily studied. What we have found is that it not only provides many of these benefits but it does it in a way without making the user high. This makes it great for certain types of users that do not prefer THC but still need the medicinal use of the plant.
CBD Oils will Soon be Sold Legally in Edible Form, But in What Format and Under What Rules Remains to be Seen
Right now, as a component of Cannabis, CBD is legal to sell in various preparations like CBD-heavy dried cannabis, oils, and capsules but not currently in edibles like candy or in drinks. CBD-infused beauty products are not legal in Canada, according to a Health Canada spokesperson, although they’re apparently very popular in the U.S. More specifically, products containing CBD are generally used to manage pain, addictions, and neurological conditions, he said. Anecdotal reports and pre-clinical trials have suggested it has benefits for pain relief and has anti-inflammatory properties.
A Common Misunderstanding Surrounding the Passage of the Farm Bill is That the Legislation has Also Legalized Cannabidiol (CBD)
This is a topic of confusion, as there is a section in the Farm Bill which removes hemp-derived products from Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act. The observation here is that CBD can be derived from hemp plants, therefore is removed. This is just not the case. Federally, CBD will remain illegal in the U.S but the Farm Bill does create certain exceptions to this rule. Still, it is thought that the legalization of hemp will boost the pre-existing CBD industry, which is projected to be worth around $1 billion by the year 2020. The legalization of CBD in these select circumstances may also fuel further research into the health benefits and applications of CBD, as well as other cannabinoids derived from hemp.
