Horizons ETFs Completes Final Rebalance of its Cannabis ETFs in 2019
Here Are the Full Lists of Additions and Deletions For Horizons’ HMMJ, HMJR and HMUS Cannabis ETFs
Horizons ETFs Management (Canada) announced today that it has completed its final quarterly rebalance of the company’s cannabis-focused ETFs in 2019. As a result, Horizons has disclosed the following additions and deletions to the constituent holdings of its marijuana ETFs Horizons Marijuana Life Sciences Index ETF (TSX: HMMJ), Horizons Emerging Marijuana Growers Index ETF (NEO: HMJR) and Horizons U.S. Marijuana Index ETF (NEO: HMUS).
Horizons was the first company to offer investors the opportunity to invest in an ETF with direct exposure to North American cannabis stocks with the release of its HMMJ cannabis ETF. Since then, Horizons has added two additional marijuana ETFs to its offerings which include its Emerging Marijuana Growers ETF HMJR and its ETF focused on U.S. pot stocks HMUS.
Below is a summary of Horizons’ final quarterly rebalance of 2019 for its HMMJ, HMJR and HMUS cannabis ETFs complete with the full lists of additions and deletions.
Horizons Marijuana Life Sciences Index ETF (TSX: HMMJ)
HMMJ by Horizons is a passively managed ETF with the goal of replicating the performance of the North American Marijuana Index. HMMJ provides exposure to a carefully selected basket of North American stocks with considerable marijuana-related business activities. The North American Marijuana Index selects public companies that have cannabis business operations in biopharmaceuticals, medical manufacturing, distribution, bioproducts and other ancillary products or services. Constituents of the HMMJ ETF typically have a market cap of CDN $75 million or greater.
“The performance of the Marijuana sector in Q4 was quite disappointing. As a result, the market capitalization of a number of HMMJ’s holdings fell below their minimum inclusion threshold, leading to their removal from the index and the ETF. Within HMMJ’s portfolio, this has resulted in the survival of the fittest: HMMJ’s holdings are now more concentrated on companies that are maintaining a strong position within the cannabis industry, despite difficult market conditions.” – Steve Hawkins, President & CEO of Horizons ETFs

Horizons U.S. Marijuana Index ETF (NEO: HMUS)
The Horizons HMUS ETF was launched in April of 2019 as the world’s first U.S.-focused cannabis index ETF. The goal of HMUS is to replicate as closely as possible the performance of the U.S. Marijuana Companies Index. HMUS was created to provide investors with exposure to a basket of cannabis stocks with significant operations or exposure to the United States marijuana and hemp industries. The constituents of the HMUS ETF include pot stocks from U.S. and Canadian exchanges.
“We continue to believe that the United States has the potential to be the world’s largest cannabis market from an investment perspective. Several instances of key federal and state-level legislation have signalled progress on greater cannabis liberalization in the country, including the SAFE Banking Act, the MORE Act, and the legalization of recreational cannabis in Illinois. We are optimistic about what’s in store for the United States’ cannabis sector in 2020.” – Steve Hawkins, President & CEO of Horizons ETFs
